Two Ways to A Successful Marketing Blog: Get Off the Couch

by Chris Donaldson on October 29, 2009

One of my favorite sayings on the playground growing up as a kid was ‘My Blog can beat up your Blog”.

But, frankly, my blog is actually sucking a little wind right now. It’s out of shape. It hasn’t been hitting the speed bag like it needs to or putting in the miles. Why? No discipline. It’s soft around the middle. Too many nachos.

But I have been blogging awhile now and have discovered two really good tips that will tighten the abs in less than 10 minutes a day:

  1. Stick to an editorial calendar: Mine has slipped and I need to get back on a firm calendar.
  2. Banking content: If you can get a few days ahead on your blog content, it really clears the mind of deadlines and keeps it fresh. I’m shooting for a three day lead time on most blogging content, with the exception of late breaking news. What’s cool about Wordpress is you can schedule content to post whenever you want it to.

This blog is going to change shape in the next few months  - and be less a bulletin board floating in cyberspace and more of an interactive community of people and ideas. I’m dusting off the treadmill as we speak.

I don't like the video Rube Goldberg. Physics are shoddy.

Soft around the middle, no discipline? "There're many phases in life," Jerry Ahlberg told me once (over ten years ago).
