I don’t mind in most cases having to talk to customer service departments that have been dislocated overseas. Hey, I’m always interested in the weather in India.
But today it took me about an hour for the customer service department at Ready Hosting to answer whether or not their hosting company is cPanel based. Now, I don’t know my cPanel from a hole in the ground, but I do know it’s a relatively common term among those in the hosting biz - and is the source of my hang-up in The 30 Day Challenge. The answer? I’m still not quite sure. I got many different answers, some of which I wasn’t close to understanding.
Anyway, the end result is that I’m trying out a new hosting company called Hostgator. I’m sure Ed Dale gets a kick back from this, but what the hey. So far, the challenge has taught me a lot.
The lesson? I don’t know if there is one per se. I do know people are moving off shore, and that’s a sad but necessary business model for many companies. Just make sure your people are trained in the basics, and understand some of the more American common slang Dude terminology.
And oh yeah, it’s 77 degrees in Calcutta right now.
