Content Development Engine, Day 9: Next Week is the Week

by Chris Donaldson on July 2, 2009

This is Day 9 of a 10 Day Course on how to create killer content. Visit Day One to get the full mojo.

You’ve written a few posts by now, right? If not, put some fire on it. It’s time to get busy.

Because next week, come Monday, you’re going to get in a routine. You’re going to drop the content development engine into gear by shooting the video, writing the words, dialing in the podcasts, whatever it is you’ve got to do. And maybe you want to start small. Maybe you want to do 2-3 blog posts a week for a few weeks, just to find the groove. There’s nothing wrong with that. It may be all you need to get your blog fix.

Over the next few days though I want you to explode your editorial calendar. I want you surf the web, watch television, talk to people, listen and write down every potential blog topic you can think of. This is the fuel that’s going to get you there.

Some people are real formal about this and create spreadsheets broken out by topic and article ideas. I haven’t gotten there yet. Mine is still more like the doodle on the cocktail napkin approach, but maybe I’ll get more sophisticated. There’s about 205 ideas floating around out there I’ve captured and hope to materialize.

You?

Marketing Takeaway: This is beating a dead horse but only because this is key: what are you going to say? Find your topics.Organize them. Get your house in order before you embark on yor content blitz.

Deliverable: Show me your editorial calendar for the week. Email chris [at] chrisdonaldson.com with ‘Very Pimp’ in the subject line.

Out.
